Veil Nebula East (NGC6992) in H alpha and OIII

This was a difficult image to process, and looking at other websites I'd say that many photographers are confronted by the same issues. It's difficult to prevent the areas with bright emission at both wavelengths from becoming saturated and colorless, and emphasizing the faint but important details reveals a lot of background noise. I finally settled on converting each component to pure spectral colors and overlaying an enhanced version of each with 'screen'. I emphasized the OIII more than the Ha, so the color balance here is definitely not natural.

my back yard; August 8 and 29 (Ha, 17x1000s) and August 26 (OIII, 12x1000s), 2011. Parsec 8300M on TV85 at f/5.6; guided.
