Horsehead and Flame nebulae in H alpha

I thought to use relatively short exposures for this image because the full moon was near, and I didn't want Alnitak blooming all over the sky. But I was overcautious, the frames were not sky-limited, and so to achieve the post-processing brightness I wanted I had to settle for a slightly grainier final result than I like. The learning curve consists in part of discovering deficiencies in one's judgement!

my back yard; February 7 and 8, 2012; 40x500s, transparency good and seeing good to fair. Parsec 8300M with Ha filter on TV85 at f/5.6; guided.
