Region of crater Albategnius

Captured on the same night I obtained this detailed mosaic of the terminator of the waning half-moon. This beautiful crater is in a spectacularly rugged region southeast of Mare Imbrium. The diagonal grooves apparently formed when low-angle ejecta, blasted out by the impact which caused formation of the mare, ripped through the moon's surface. The video was obtained with a small chip area (1600x1200 pixels) to increase the number of frames to 3,000. The best 5% of these were stacked to create the image.

my back yard; September 26, 2013, 3-5:30 AM; seeing exceptionally good with average transparency. Celestron NI5 on 150mm Esprit with 2X Powermate; approx. 1/75 s exposures; no filters.
