Mars near opposition, April 19, 2014

On the left is Mars at 2215 EST; on the right, at 2330. The differences in background color and orientation are a result of my image processing.

There were few opportunities to photograph Mars from Ottawa at the time of this year's opposition, and the seeing didn't warrant the use of my 11 inch scope. In addition to the north polar ice cap, features such as Mare Acidalium in the northern hemisphere are readily identifiable.

my back yard; April 19, 21:30-23:30; seeing fair to average. Celestron NI5 on 150mm with 2X Powermate; no filters. Stack of about 150 images (best 5% of video frames, 2 minute exposure).
